Belawan Prosecutor’s Statement
Meanwhile, the Head of the Belawan District Prosecutor’s Office, Samiaji Zakaria, explained that the success of implementing RJ was inseparable from the synergy between the Belawan District Attorney’s Office and the Medan City Government and the victim in terms of law enforcement.
“We are prioritizing this program, but its implementation is still carried out selectively and subjectively,” explained Samiaji.
Samiaji also stated that in order to carry out this RJ, a number of requirements must be met, including that there must be peace from the victim, the losses incurred are not significant, the suspect is not a recidivist, and the threat of a sentence of no more than five years.
“Essentially the goal of RJ is recovery for victims,” said Samiaji.
Samiaji also revealed that the 21 suspects who will be released will be given responsibility in the form of social work.
“We will give them social sanctions. I hope that these suspects will no longer commit other criminal acts and will participate in maintaining security in North Medan,” hoped Samiaji.
Meanwhile, Fitrah Juanda Harahap, one of the 21 suspects who received justice through the Restorative Justice mechanism, expressed her regret for having committed the crime of theft.
