In a report entitled Indonesia to block Israeli team from gymnastics world championships in Jakarta, the Times of Israel news portal highlighted this decision considering that Indonesia is the country with the largest Muslim population in the world and is a strong supporter of Palestine.

“Now, (the Israeli team’s) participation is in doubt, even though the Israeli Gymnastics Federation stated last July that it had received guarantees from Indonesian officials that they would be welcomed at the world event. This actually goes against Indonesia’s long-standing policy of refusing to host Israeli sports delegations in major international events,” the report said.

mentioned that Indonesia would not issue visas to the Israeli artistic gymnastics team until Israel recognized the State of Palestine.
“Indonesia’s Minister of Law, Human Rights and Immigration said Israeli athletes ‘will not enter our country until Israel recognizes the state of Palestine,” the report said

The Israeli Gymnastics Federation stated that it had not received official notification regarding the ban on its team entering Indonesia.
The General Chairperson of PB Persani or the Indonesian Gymnastics Federation, Ita Yuliati Irawan, stated that her party was the one who proposed canceling the visas of Israeli gymnasts for the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, 19-25 October.
This was conveyed by Ita at a press conference at the Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, Friday (10/10) morning.Ita said that his party, as the organizer, coordinated with immigration to cancel the visa process for Israeli athletes.
“They [Israeli athletes] will definitely not attend because their visas have also been cancelled. We also received a letter from the FIG [International Gymnastics Federation] supporting Indonesia’s decision,” said Ita at a press conference at the Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, Friday (10/10).
“Of course [Israeli athletes’ visas] have been rejected by immigration. This process is based on provisions from the Indonesian side, immigration for athletes that every athlete must go through C-8, and they have already registered with C-8 and it is already there. We as the organizers, because we know that Israel is a country that does not have diplomacy with Indonesia and is also included in the calling visa,” added Ita.
