Defense Minister
Israel
, Israel Katz, on Friday (8/22) threatened to destroy the city of Gaza in
Gaza Strip
Palestine
If Hamas refused to disarm weapons, free all hostages, and accept the conditions for ending the war.
“Immediately, the gate of hell will be open above the heads of Hamas killers and rapists in Gaza, until they agree on Israel’s conditions to end the war, especially the liberation of all hostages and disarmament,” Katz wrote on social media.
He asserted that if Hamas refused, the city of Gaza would have the same fate as Rafah and Beit Hanoun, two cities in Gaza that were previously destroyed during the brutal aggression of Israel.
This statement arose after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday night that he had ordered immediately negotiations to free all the remaining hostages in Gaza.
Netanyahu explained that efforts to release hostages would go hand in hand with the operation to seize the city of Gaza and destroy the Hamas defense base.
Earlier this week, the Israeli Ministry of Defense also allowed the deployment of around 60 thousand reserve forces to support the operation of the Gaza City.
“Both of these, defeat Hamas and free all our hostages, walking hand in hand,” Netanyahu said in a video statement without detailing the next stage of negotiations.
A number of mediators are said to have been waiting for Israel’s official response to the latest ceasefire proposals that Hamas had received earlier this week.
Palestinian sources said the new agreement included a gradual liberation of hostages, but Israel remained stubborn all hostages must be released at once.
Israel’s plan to expand the attack and win the city of Gaza attract international criticism and rejection from some domestic communities.
Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023 killed 1,219 people, most of the civilians, according to notes
AFP
based on official data.
Meanwhile, Israel’s offensive has killed more than 62 thousand Palestinians, the majority of civilians, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health managed by Hamas and considered credible by the United Nations (UN).
