Minister of Finance
Ancient
Yudhi Sadewa was forced to pay
bank interest
up to 6 percent for
government funds
which settles in the bank.
The government money that has been deposited includes the budgets of ministries, institutions or regional governments (Pemda) that have not been used.
For this reason, Purbaya encourages ministries, institutions and regional governments to realize spending and reduce funds sitting in banks.

“If it’s not (used), the money will be idle. One, I pay interest on the money that isn’t used,” said Purbaya at the Working Meeting (Raker) of Committee IV DPD RI in Senayan, Central Jakarta, Monday (3/11).
“Because every rupiah that we budget is basically part of the debt. Maybe most of the debt, there is a debt component there. If it’s not used, I will pay interest on the debt for the money that isn’t used,” he continued.
Purbaya said the debt interest burden borne by the government for each idle fund could reach 6 percent. This condition will actually become a burden on state finances.Apart from that, funds sitting in banks also do not encourage economic turnover.
The Ministry of Finance noted that government funds deposited in banks reached IDR 653.4 trillion as of August 2025. This figure consists of central government funds of IDR 399 trillion and regional government funds of IDR 254.4 trillion.
Funds deposited in the central and regional governments are distributed into three savings posts, including current accounts amounting to IDR 357.4 trillion, savings IDR 10.4 trillion and term savings IDR 285.6 trillion.
Purbaya said he would monitor budget absorption until the middle of next year.If absorption by a ministry/institution is not optimal, it will be transferred to another program.
“Now it’s the end of October, so in the middle of next year we will assess, extrapolate until the end of the year. Once we can’t spend, in the middle of the year we will reallocate it to programs that are faster, better prepared and more beneficial for our economy,” said Purbaya.
