) Cancel for a lifetime decision handed down by the District Court

Against former Kanit I Satresnarkoba Barelang Police (Batam-Rempang-Galang) Shigit Sarwo Edhi in the case of embezzlement of narcotics evidence.
The Panel of Judges at the Riau Islands High Court changed the decision from the original life, so the death sentence.
“For the defendant Shigit Sarwo Edhi, the appeal judge decided to cancel the decision of the Batam District Court, then changed the decision of the Batam District Court from a lifetime to death,” said Spokesman for the Riau Islands High Court Priyanto Lumban Radja, Monday (4/8).
He said the decision of the Riau Islands High Court read in a hearing chaired by Judge Ahmad Shalihin as Chair of the Assembly, as well as two member judges namely Bagus Irawan and Priyanto Lumban Radja.
The verdict from PT Kepri was in accordance with the appeal submitted by the Batam Kejari so that the defendant was given a death sentence.
The consideration of the appeal judge decided to death of the shigit, because as an intellectual actor from the preliminary case of drug evidence that occurred in June 2024.
“The consideration, he (Shigit), is an intellectual actor of this case. And he is responsible, not the criminal will not be carried out by his subordinates if he does not give orders,” said Priyanto.
Previously, at the verdict reading hearing, June 4, 2025, the Batam District Court judges sentenced the prosecutor’s demands to the Sarwo Edhi Shigit, for life.
Previously, the prosecutor demanded the death sentence.Upon the verdict at the Batam District Court, the Batam District Attorney submitted an appeal to PT Kepri.
In addition to Shigit, on the same day, the Appeal Judge of the Riau Islands High Court who read the appeal decision on three former members of the Barelang Police Satresnarkoba Unit I who were also defendants namely Rahmadi, Ibnu Ma’ruf Rambe, and Fadhila.
Priyanto who is also a judge member of the case said the appeal decision against the three defendants was to strengthen the decision of the Batam District Court, a lifelong criminal.
While for two other defendants namely Rahmadi and Fadhilah were sentenced to be lighter than the prosecutors’ demands namely death punishment, while Ibn Ma’ruf Rambe was decided according to the demands of the Public Prosecutor.
Furthermore, on Tuesday (5/8), the panel of judges appealed to the reading of the appeal decision for six former members of the Barelang Police Satresnarkoba, Kompol Satria Nanda, Junaidi Gunawan, Aryanto, Jaka Surya, Wan Rahmat Kurniawan, and Alex Candra.
Kompol Satria Nanda is a former Narcotics Narcotics Unit of Barelang Police.
The judge also read the appeal decision for defendants Zulkifli Simanjuntak and Aziz Martua Siregar (courier in the case).
All defendants were both decided for life by the Batam District Court.But for the defendant Satria Nanda, Wan Rahmat was demanded to be a death sentence by the Public Prosecutor.
