, Takaichi’s parents even rejected their daughter’s desire to go to college because she was a woman, so young Takaichi had to struggle alone to find money to pursue higher education.
Before entering the world of politics, Takaichi worked as a television host.
His political inspiration emerged in the 1980s, amidst trade tensions between the US and Japan.Wanting to understand how America viewed Japan, he then worked in the office of a member of Congress from the US Democratic Party, Patricia Schroeder, who was known to be critical of Japan.
He first ran as an independent member of parliament in 1992 but lost.A year later he ran again and won, then joined the LDP in 1996. Since then, Takaichi was elected to parliament 10 times and lost only once, building a reputation as one of the party’s most outspoken conservative voices.
Takaichi is a former Japanese interior minister. He is also a close ally and protégé of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.Takaichi held a number of ministerial posts under the Abe government.
Some of those he held during Abe’s first government were Minister of State for Okinawa and Northern Territory Affairs, Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy, Minister of State for Innovation, Minister of State for Gender Equality, and Minister of State for Food Safety.
In the second term of the Abe administration, Takaichi was appointed Minister of Home Affairs and Communications. He held this position from 2014 to 2017. Takaichi also held the same position in 2019-2020 or in Abe’s last term of office.

Takaichi’s conservative views also encompass social issues. One of them, Takaichi opposes same-sex marriage and opposes married couples using different surnames, as reported by Japan Forward.
This kind of use of separate surnames is becoming popular among Japanese society. However, Takaichi is of the view that this could damage the stability of the family name for the child.
Fan of Margaret Thatcher and baseball
Reporting from Reuters, Takaichi is also known to be fond of Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s former first female prime minister. He repeatedly said Thatcher was a source of inspiration because of her strong character and beliefs, as well as her warmth as a woman.
This inspiration carried over to him, who often showed an outspoken and firm attitude in politics. Some parties even consider her the Iron Lady of Japan.Iron Lady is Margaret Thatcher’s nickname.
