Overdose
at Siem Reap Hospital,
Cambodia
in mid -August.

Instead of following the family’s advice, Nazwa continued to depart in early May 2025. To the family, Nazwa argued that he would go to a job interview test at a bank in Medan, North Sumatra.
A few days later, the family was surprised because Nazwa gave the news in Bangkok, Thailand.Since then it was called Nazwa communication to the family to be limited until finally it was cut off.
In early August 2025, the family received news from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Phnom Penh that Central Nazwa was treated intensively at State Hospital, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia.
Nazwa underwent treatment for four days at the hospital, until finally on August 12 was declared dead.
Minister of P2MI, Abdul Kadir Karding said that his party had coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the Indonesian Embassy in PHNOM Penh for repatriation of the bodies to the country.
Karding delivered, after arriving in Indonesia, KemenP2MI will facilitate and ensure the smooth process of Nazwa Aliya’s body until the family’s hands.
“Once the body arrives in the country, it is entirely the responsibility of KemenP2MI to accept, and deliver the body and hand over to the family at his home,” he said as quoted on Friday (8/22).
On Thursday (21/8), Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, said Nawza died from an overdose.
Judha explained that information about the existence of Nawza in Cambodia began with a family complaint to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in May 2025.
Following up on the report, on May 31, 2025 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs communicated directly through video calls with Nazwa.In that communication, Nazwa claimed to have left Indonesia for his own desires because of family problems.
Nazwa also admitted that at that time he went with a British citizen who was an acquaintance of the family since in Indonesia.However, while in Cambodia, Nazwa was also not working.
Judha revealed based on the assessment carried out, at that time NA was in good condition, had freedom of movement, and not accepting threats or violence that led to alleged criminal acts or TPPO.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs then offers Nazwa mediation with family.However, Nazwa refused and asked the government to respect his choice because he was an adult, could make his own decisions and travel legally.
“This handling effort has been delivered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the families in Indonesia,” Judha said.
Then on August 8, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received Nazwa’s information turned out to undergo treatment at the hospital.However, his condition worsened until a coma on August 11 and finally died on August 12 at 10:20 local time.
“Based on the official statement of the hospital and Cambodian police, the deceased died from a drug overdose that caused acute complications and hepatitis (poisoning in the liver),” said Judha.
As a follow -up, said Judha, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh will continue to coordinate with Cambodian and family authorities to ensure the best handling for victims.
Judha said that the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had also sent diplomatic notes to Cambodia to ask for an investigation into Nawza’s death.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has delivered a diplomatic note to Cambodian authorities to investigate the overdose events experienced by NA,” Judha said.
On the other hand, reported from various sources, Lanniari Nazwa’s mother had complained to the North Sumatra Indonesian Migrant Protection Service Center (BP3MI) on Thursday.Lanniari asked for help related to the return of Nazwa’s body to Indonesia.
Lanniari admitted that the Indonesian Embassy asked for a return fee of Rp138 million.He also said that he also had to pay Rp. 60 million if the child was buried in Cambodia.This cannot be fulfilled by the family.Until now, there has been no statement from related parties about the request for the money.
