) After the country reported 19 air violations by the drone
Russia
on Wednesday (10/9).
The activation of Article 4 by Poland, who is a member country, made NATO ‘Alert War’ with Russia in the event of the worst thing.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed the application of Article 4 of the NATO and called the incident as a “violation that had never happened”.The same thing was expressed by the President of Polish Karol Nawrocki.
“Russian provocation is nothing more than an effort to test our abilities and responses,” President Nawrocki said, quoted from shesocial on Friday (12/9).
“This is an attempt to examine the mechanism of NATO operations and our ability to react. Thank you, because we have passed all these tests,” he continued.
The application of Article 4 made NATO on standby to Russia.NATO fighter jet also shot down a number of Russian non -guide aircraft that violated the Polish airspace during the attack on Ukraine.
This action has been the first time NATO fired a shot since the start of the war in Ukraine. The shot caused 16 unmanned aircraft to be found scattered throughout Poland.
NATO member countries also officially began to discuss the situation.Polish officials even called this situation a Russian provocation.
What is Article 4 NATO?
Meanwhile, Article 4 of NATO states that each member country can convey an issue to the North Atlantic Council, the NATO main decision maker, to be discussed with the allies.
NATO members also hold the principle of attack on one country is an attack on all members of the alliance member in it.
“Members will consult together every time, in the opinion of one of them, territorial integrity, political independence, or security of one of the members is threatened,” said Article 4 of the NATO.
The discussion that occurred after the application of Article 4 then led to a joint decision or attitude in the name of the alliance. This consultation process is the key because all alliance decisions are made based on consensus.
The consultation requested by Poland took place on Wednesday (10/9) morning along with the routine meeting of the North Atlantic Council in Brussels, Belgium.NATO through Secretary General Mark Rutte then declared solidarity and condemned Russia’s reckless behavior.
“The overall assessment of the incident is ongoing. What is clear, the violation last night was not an isolated incident,” said Rutte.
Meanwhile, the Polish military announced air traffic restrictions in the eastern region of the country as of Thursday (11/9).The air traffic restrictions will take effect until 9 December 2025.
Poland also said that the UN Security Council would hold an emergency event to discuss Russian unmanned aircraft attacks.
On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Defense dismissed the statement that the country targeted the Poland territory in an attack on the middle of Ukraine last week.
Russia also called this incident as “myths repeatedly spread by Poland to increase the escalation of the Ukraine crisis.”
