“We haven’t discussed that mechanism yet. But in my view, maybe we will prepare other troops, new ones,” said Sugiono to media crew in the courtyard of the Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wednesday (5/11).
He then said, “But [the discussion] hasn’t gotten there at all.”
Sugiono also said that the details of implementing the peacekeeping force were waiting for an official mandate from the UN.
“And we all hope that there is a comprehensive plan that can be implemented,” he said.
Indonesia, on various occasions, has emphasized that it is ready to send peacekeeping troops to Gaza.
During a speech at the UN General Assembly session last September, President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia was ready to send peacekeeping troops to guard Gaza if the UN approved it.
At that time, Prabowo also said that Indonesia was ready to deploy 20,000 personnel.
“If the Security Council and UN General Assembly decide, Indonesia is ready to send 20 thousand, even more, of our sons and daughters to secure peace in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, Libya, or wherever peace is needed,” said Prabowo.
