The reason is, the seven main players in the team are certain not to be part of the team due to the players’ commitments to the Malaysian Super League clubs.
The Malaysian U-23 squad is included in Group B along with Vietnam and Laos.The Harimau Malaya Muda team will compete against Laos on December 6 before facing Vietnam on December 11 at Rajamangala Stadium, Bangkok.

Ahead of the opening match against Laos, the Malaysia U-23 situation was in a limited condition.However, Ahmad Aysar Hadi remains optimistic.
“We cannot take it for granted and we have learned a lot, especially in terms of playing as a team. We realize that there are small things that sometimes have a bigger impact on us as a team,” said the Malaysian defender.
“So for this SEA Games, we have learned from all previous tournaments and we will give our best in this edition of the SEA Games,” Ahmad added.
Malaysia U-23 National Team coach Nafuzi Zain admitted there was the potential to lose seven main players for the 2025 SEA Games. However, he was happy with the positive response from the players who were ready to fight.
“In terms of preparation, we continue to train even in a situation where there is a shortage of players. The number of players is not sufficient, and maybe there are those who take part in training and then return to compete with the state, with the club, then join us again,” said Nafuzi.
The men’s soccer schedule for the 2025 SEA Games will take place from 3 to 18 December.
Group A consists of Thailand, Timor Leste and Singapore.Meanwhile, Group B is filled with Vietnam, Malaysia and Laos.Meanwhile, Group C consists of Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines.
