Coach
Macau U-23
, Kar-Lok Kenneth Kwok, emphasized that his team had to perform optimally when facing Laos in the final match of Group J U-23 2026 Asian Cup qualification at Gelora Delta Stadium, Sidoarjo on Tuesday (9/9) next.
Kwok considered that Laos was not an easy opponent, especially after they were able to hold Indonesia 0-0 in the inaugural match.
“Based on their appearance that can hold Indonesia, it is proven that Laos’s defense is very strong,” Kwok said in a press conference after Group J, Saturday (6/9) night.
He revealed that from the beginning of participation in the U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers, Macau’s main focus was the match against Laos.
Two previous matches against South Korea and Indonesia were more directed to strengthen defense while providing opportunities to play for young players.
Even so, Kwok reminded that Laos had a dangerous counter -attack threat, so it did not rule out the possibility they could win.
Therefore, he asked his squad to be really ready to undergo the last match.
The Hong Kong coach explained that his priority since handling Macau nine months ago was to provide an opportunity for young players to be able to penetrate the senior squad. The majority of players who appear in this event are still under 20 years old.
Kwok was optimistic that in the next two years his young players could be the backbone of the senior team.
“In the next U-23 qualification, many of our players can still play one or two more editions. That is the future of the Macau team,” said Kwok.
