The man named Thaddeus was born from an embryo which was frozen more than 30 years ago, making him one of the most unique births in reproductive history.

The couple chose to follow the embryo adoption program, a process that allows someone to ‘adopt’ frozen embryos from other couples who previously underwent the In Vitro (IVF) fertilization program.The embryo they adopted was known to have been frozen since 1994 or 30 years ago.
The IVF process or in vitro fertilization itself involves complex steps.According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, this process begins with induction of ovulation, where the egg is taken from the patient’s ovaries.
Furthermore, the egg is fertilized with sperm outside the body, then the successful embryo can be immediately implanted into the uterus or stored in a laboratory for use in the future.
In the case of the Pierce family, the embryo that has been frozen for more than three decades was successfully implanted and grew into a healthy pregnancy.Lindsey also underwent pregnancy as usual to give birth to Thaddeus.
Although it sounds surprising, medical experts state that the age of frozen embryos is not a problem as long as the freezing and disbursement procedure is done correctly.
“If the embryo is frozen with the right procedure, then melted and passes the screening stage, the quality can be equivalent to the newly created embryo today,” said Alok Patel, a certified pediatrician, who was not directly involved in the treatment of Lindsey Pierce.
The Pierce family says that they have never pursued a record or extraordinary things from this process.
“We don’t do this to set any record, we just want to have children,” Lindsey said in his statement.
