Corruption Eradication Commission
(KPK) plans to go to
Saudi Arabia
related to investigating cases of alleged corruption in hajj quotas for the implementation of the Indonesian hajj pilgrimage in 2023-2024
“In the case of the Hajj quota, hopefully we can handle it more quickly, because there are plans we also have to check with the location (Saudi Arabia),” said Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the Corruption Eradication Committee, Asep Guntur Rahayu at his office, Jakarta, Monday (10/11).

Asep explained that the KPK would check directly with the location to ensure the availability of places and accommodation after Indonesia received an additional Hajj quota.
The additional Hajj quota of 20,000 that Indonesia received was previously known to be divided into 10,000 for the regular Hajj quota and 10,000 for the special Hajj quota.
“Is the additional 20 thousand, 10 thousand for the regular Hajj, then 10 thousand for the special Hajj, is the availability of places, then also accommodation and so on, is it sufficient or not?”Asep said.
“Later we will also carry out checks, because this then becomes a polemic that some people think that this addition will require location, location, etc.,” he added.
Asep said the KPK was trying to resolve the case quickly. He said that the Corruption Eradication Commission did not want the case to be resolved, while on the other hand, the Hajj was already underway.
“Don’t let the implementation of this Hajj become a problem, the implementation of the next Hajj is already underway, this one is not finished yet. Even though we can do it
cut off
“This means that this case has indeed been cut until 2024 only for the quota procurement,” he said.
The additional Hajj quota of 20,000 was obtained after the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, held a bilateral meeting with the Crown Prince who is also the Prime Minister (PM) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al-Saud, on October 19 2023.
Based on Article 64 paragraph (2) of Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of the Hajj and Umrah Pilgrimage, the special Hajj quota is set at 8 percent of the Indonesian Hajj quota.
The special Hajj quota consists of special Hajj pilgrims and special Hajj officers. The remaining 92 percent is allocated for the regular Hajj quota.
The additional Hajj quota of 20,000 should be distributed to 18,400 regular Hajj pilgrims or the equivalent of 92 percent, and the special Hajj quota of 1,600 or the equivalent of 8 percent.
Thus, the number of regular Hajj pilgrims, which was originally only 203,320, would increase to 221,720 people.Meanwhile, the number of special pilgrims, which was originally 17,680, will increase to 19,280 people.
However, what happened was that the distribution was divided into 10,000 for the regular Hajj quota and 10,000 for the special Hajj quota.
This is as stated in the Decree (SK) of the Minister of Religion Number 130 of 2024 which was signed by the Minister of Religion at that time, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, on January 15 2024.
In the ongoing investigation process, the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) has prevented three people from traveling abroad for six months.
They are Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, staff, especially Ishfah Abidal Aziz or Gus Alex, and the owner of the Maktour Travel travel agent, namely Fuad Hasan Masyhur.
The Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) has also searched a number of places, such as Yaqut’s residence in Condet, East Jakarta, the Hajj and Umrah travel agent’s office in Jakarta, the ASN house of the Ministry of Religion in Depok, and the room of the Directorate General of Hajj and Umrah Organizations (PHU) of the Ministry of Religion.
