The United States Department of State (US) proposes significant new rules for the applicant
Visa
business and tourism. In this proposal, visa applicants are required to pay guarantees of up to US $ 15,000 or around Rp245.8 million to enter the US.
This step has the potential to make the US visa submission process unreachable for many prospective visitors.According to the notification to be issued at the Federal Register on Tuesday (5/8), the 12 -month pilot program will soon be launched.
In the program, individuals from identified countries have a high level of visa violation or have a weak internal document security control, can be required to pay a guarantee of US $ 5,000, US $ 10,000, or US $ 15,000 when applying for a visa.
As reported
Independent
, this program is scheduled to take effect 15 days after official publications. This step is considered important to protect the US government from financial losses if the visa holder fails to comply with their visa provisions.
The notification states that “foreign citizens who submit visas as temporary visitors for business or tourism purposes, and come from identified countries have a high level of visa violations, inadequate screening and inspection information, or offer citizenship through investment without residency requirements, can be the subject of this pilot program.”
The list of affected countries will be announced after this program officially begins.Citizens of countries incorporated in the visa free program (Visa Waiver Program) will be excluded from this guarantee obligation.Exceptions can also be given based on the condition of the applicant’s individual.
Indonesia itself is not a country in the US visa -free program, so that Indonesian citizens (Indonesian citizens) who travel to Uncle Sam’s country must pay guarantees of up to Rp245.8 million.
Although the idea of visa guarantees has been proposed before, but it has never been applied, the US Department of State previously did not encourage this policy, because it was considered to burden administration and could potentially cause wrong public perceptions.
However, the department is now stating that the previous view “is not supported by the latest samples or evidence, because visa guarantees have not been applied in the last period.”
This policy marks a significant change in the process of submitting a visa to the US and is expected to affect many prospective visitors from various countries.
