Victor explained that the church does not compromise with interests that conflict with justice and preserving nature. They firmly oppose environmentally destructive practices.
“The Church must not compromise with interests that conflict with justice and the integrity of creation. HKBP must remain loyal to being a firm, prophetic voice against practices that damage the environment and life,” he said.
HKBP asks the government to stop permits that damage the ecology and implement the law fairly to preserve the environment.According to him, natural destruction is not a natural event but also the result of greed and exploitation.
“We emphasize that natural damage is not just a natural event, but also the result of greed, exploitation and economic practices that damage God’s creation,” he said.
HKBP also appealed to the congregation to always support disaster victims with a sincere heart without losing the morals and testimony of the church. In his statement, Victor also expressed his gratitude for the assistance received by HKBP.
“With great gratitude, we express our gratitude for all forms of assistance that have been received through HKBP from individuals, groups, churches, as well as HKBP service levels at the local, resort and district levels.”
“Every helping hand is a concrete manifestation of Christ’s love for our brothers and sisters who are suffering,” he added.
Toba Pulp, which is on the HKBP boycott list, has denied being the culprit behind the devastating floods in Sumatra which have claimed the lives of more than 700 people as of Tuesday.

Environmental monitoring is carried out periodically, in collaboration with independent and certified institutions, to ensure that all activities comply with applicable regulations.
“All HTI (Industrial Plantation Forest) activities have gone through a High Conservation Value (HCV) and High Carbon Stock (HCS) assessment by a third party to ensure the implementation of the principles of Sustainable Forest Management,” he explained.
According to Anwar, of the total area of 167,912 Ha, the company only develops around 46,000 Ha of eucalyptus plants.Meanwhile, the rest is maintained as a protected and conservation area.
