Costa is a former Portugal national team who is also a legend of FC Porto.The man who served as Director of Portuguese football suffered a heart attack while monitoring the Dragoes training session, the nickname Porto.
This tragic event occurred at the Olival training center, Vila Nova De Gaia, Portugal as reported by Euro News.Costa suddenly felt unhealthy and collapsed on the field around 09.00 local time.
The Porto medical team immediately gave first aid using a defibrillator, before he was rushed to Sao Joao Hospital in Porto in critical condition.
However, rescue efforts were unsuccessful, and Costa was declared dead from a heart attack, which was allegedly related to his heart problem history in 2022. At that time, Costa who collected 50 caps with the Portugal national team underwent catheterization procedures for arrhythmia.
“Jorge Costa left an unforgettable inheritance for Porto fans. Our captain will never be forgotten,” the club’s statement after Costa died.
Porto announced three days of official mourning and planned to hold a special respects at the Dragao Stadium in the next home match.
Costa was the captain of Porto when he won the 2004 Champions League under the care of Jose Mourinho, and the 2003 UEFA Cup and eight Portuguese League titles.
During his career, he appeared in 383 matches for Porto, scored 25 goals, and strengthened the Portugal national team in 50 matches.
