In the election of LDP leaders, Takaichi replaced Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba as party chairman.Takaichi is also expected to be the next prime minister.
In this LDP leader election, Takaichi competed with four other candidates.
The new leader of LDP-whose term of office was up to 2027-had a prime minister at the end of this month.The LDP minority coalition with the Komeito Party is still the biggest force in the Japanese parliament, while the opposition party coalition is not yet solid.

The election of the new LDP leader occurred after Ishiba announced his resignation in early September.Ishiba decided to resign from the LDP shoots as a responsibility for the defeat of the coalition in the Election of the High Council in July.Finally, it accelerated the selection of new LDP leaders who were originally scheduled for 2027.
The coalition led by Ishiba also lost the majority in the Low Assembly in October 2024, shortly after he served as Prime Minister.
