My expectations are quite high against
Pretty Crazy
Because the film is the collaboration of the two director Lee Sang-geun and Yoona Girls’ Generation after Exit (2019) who successfully box office and critic assessment.
However, that expectation made me slowly swallow disappointment because Pretty Crazy could not exceed or equalize his position with exit.
The director and scriptwriter Lee Sang-geun are clearly seen trying a different direction in executing Pretty Crazy. If previously only focused on comedy and disaster, he now combines more genres, namely comedy, mystery, romance, family, and a little occult.
This fusion genre approach is actually at risk for a reunion project that makes viewers high expectations of the latest cooperation of Lee Sang-geun and Yoona.
The film can be less satisfying the audience if all the genres are not balanced carefully and fitting.Unfortunately, that happened in Pretty Crazy.
In its execution, all the genres can indeed be part of the 115-minute film, although each can only be ascending.

The story and script clearly became the main note of this film.Pretty Crazy is mentioned and promoted as Yoona’s latest romantic comedy with Ahn Bo-Hyun who plays the role of Seon-Ji and Gil-Gu.
However, the romance of the two characters does not have a strong foundation and is not built consistently, as only raised at the beginning, lost in the middle, and only returned at the end.
So, their love story is really
bear
, including the basis of Gil-gu’s motivation to protect Seon-ji which is actually the core of this film.
Similarly, the element of comedy.Pretty Crazy seemed to only have one scene that became a ‘weapon’ to make the audience of a studio laugh out loud watching it.
Yoona’s appearance made Seon-Ji and his personality to live very neatly, but not supported by deep character development.
The transformation of the character is like only depending on changes in makeup, clothing, and attitude thereby reducing the complexity of the spirit of the Spirit in the Seon-Ji body.
Towards the end, the audience was given the background of Seon-Ji and the reason he was possessed. The context is at least quite convincing that it helps to explain everything can happen.
Although the development of the manuscript has a significant record, the acting of the stars becomes a medicine for the disappointment.
Yoona clearly carry the most heavy burden in Pretty Crazy. But as a main lead, he managed to give an entertaining and impressive appearance in reviving two very contrasting characters.
Likewise with Ahn Bo-Hyun who finally debuted as the male lead on the big screen. His appearance as Gil-gu was also a little reminded of his role as Goo Woong at the awkward Yumi’s Cells.
From Gil-gu’s character too, this film seems to invite the audience to reflect the situation with conditions in the real world.
This film carefully captures the challenges and hopes faced by many people in daily life, and Gil-gu’s struggle faces unemployment and the difficulty of finding work as the most can connect with the audience in Indonesia.
What’s more Sung Dong-il.Initially, I thought Pretty Crazy would be the project of the actor who would not ruffle feelings.I turned out to be a big mistake.
With a little screen time, Sung Dong-il successfully made tears drip a lot.The veteran actor never failed to make a warm heart when showing the story of parents with children.
Another disappointed medicine from this film is that Lee Sang-geun presents the viewpoint of two main characters that are one of the elements of lovers of films or romantic dramas.
If from the beginning the audience was invited to see the situation from the Gil-gu’s perspective, ahead of the end of the pieces it became complete with
point of view
Seon-ji.That part finally returned the element of romance in Pretty Crazy.

In the end, Pretty Crazy presents a much more story than just
Romcom
.Someone’s sincerity, the struggle to face the difficulty of finding work, so that parents’ love is displayed even though not too deep.
This film that can be a light entertainment still presents a little surprise or broke laughter at the right moment.
