Running a Facebook Group is hard work. Anyone who has one can vouch for that!
Creating content, engaging with your members, going live, bringing immense value – ALL WHILE trying to keep the group the least spammy as possible.
QUE THE GROUP RULES!
I have seen so many different types of group rules as a social media manager.
Some have inspired me.
Some have made me laugh.
Some have made me question the human race.
+ Some make me roll my eyes.
But the rules that always have me feelin’ some type of way and being all “Bye Felicia” on your ass, are the ones that simply say…
“ABSOLUTELY NO PROMO ALLOWED”
First of all, NONE? LIKE ZERO?
I’m sorry but ALL I WANT TO DO is talk about my business. It is what Joe and I eat, drink, breath, sleep, walk, talk, cry, laugh, DO ALL DAY EVERYDAY.
MY BUSINESS IS MY BABY AND DAMMIT, I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT! I GET TO TALK ABOUT IT BECAUSE I EARNED THIS SHIT.
I am sure you can tell I don’t typically join these types of groups, LOL.
But I wanted to make some valid points here today to help those of you who have banned promo at all costs as to why you shouldn’t knock it til’ you try it!
1. Promo is a form of networking and relationship building.
A little birdie told me that networking is one of the most powerful business tools that exist. Building relationships create trust, likeability, and loyal fans. And if you let other people do promo in your group, THEY WILL LOVE YOU – I PROMISE! ANDDDDDD, TRUST = SALES. Need I say more?
2. If you are selling a product or service and you have an affiliate program, people will post your OWN PROMOS in your group for you. HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF TIMES.
WHUUUUUUTTTT?! FREE PROMO FOR ME?! Yaaaaaas, please. One of the craziest things I have ever seen someone do in a group besides getting rid of promo altogether – was ban people from posting affiliate links of their own products in their group! WHYYYY would you want to do that. I HIGHLY encourage affiliate programs and allowing group promo of your products is genius and easy marketing for YOU!
3. Promo posts increase engagement on your page, which therefore increases your chances of being pushed into the golden algorithm of Facebook groups a.k.a. landing your group on every single discovery/recommendation page out there!
Facebook likes E N G A G E D groups. Because when people are engaging, that means people are hanging out on Facebook and Facebook REALLLLLLLLY likes that! I have single handily managed a group that got SO MUCH ENGAGEMENT, that we were getting 500-1000 new member requests PER FREAKING DAY. Yep, you read that right. SO. MANY. REQUESTS.
Now, I am not saying you should have a feeding frenzy in your group, but I do think that you should create some organized promo to encourage members to come to your page weekly and engage!
