Hetifah believes that the IOC should be objective and not apply double standards to Indonesia’s attitude of wanting to uphold humanitarian values over Israel’s attitude in Gaza.
“The IOC also needs to be objective and not apply double standards to countries that seek to uphold human values,” said Hetifah in his statement, Friday (24/10).

According to Hetifah, Indonesia’s policy of not issuing visas to six Israeli athletes is based on national sovereignty and a free and active foreign policy that rejects all forms of colonialism.
“Indonesia’s attitude is not a form of discrimination against athletes, but rather the nation’s moral consistency in fighting for humanity and solidarity with the Palestinian people,” he said.
However, to bridge Indonesia’s position as an IOC member and supporter of the Palestinian struggle, Hetifah believes that it is necessary to take an open and constructive diplomatic route.

“Indonesia must be able to separate sports from politics without sacrificing human and constitutional values,” he said.
The IOC is considered to be applying double standards for refusing to compete with Israeli athletes.The IOC punished Russia for carrying out military aggression against Ukraine, but there were no sanctions for Israel invading Palestine.Recently, Indonesia was the one affected.
After six Israeli athletes were unable to appear at the 2025 World Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, the IOC then decided to end all communication with the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC) or KOI regarding the holding of the Olympics, Youth Olympics, other Olympic events or conferences in the future.
To reopen communication regarding the Olympics, the IOC asked Indonesia to provide adequate guarantees and provide access to Indonesia for all athletes regardless of nationality.
