DKI Jakarta
open the sound of the phenomenon of individual decisions or partners to not have children or
Childfree
.
Head of DKI Jakarta PPAPPP Office Iin Mutmainnah said there are many factors that influence this, including economic conditions. The decision used by residents chose

Or delaying having children is also influenced by other aspects such as lifestyle, personal values, career planning, and awareness of the responsibility of care.
“Although an increase in poverty can be one of the backgrounds of some residents’ decisions, we see it as part of the multifactor dynamics, not the only cause,” Iin said, Monday (4/8) as quoted from
Between
.
Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of DKI Jakarta shows that the poverty rate in Jakarta in March 2025 amounted to 4.28 percent, up 0.14 percent compared to September 2024 which was 4.14 percent.
Whereas compared to the previous year (March 2024), the poverty rate in March 2025 fell 0.02 percent points from 4.3 percent to 4.28 percent.
Iin acknowledged that economic conditions were indeed one of the factors that could influence individual or partner decisions in planning to build families. This, he continued, including choosing to delay or not have children.
DKI Jakarta Provincial Government Steps
Iin said that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government believes the phenomenon
Childfree
occurs as part of social dynamics that arise along with changes in the mindset of society towards individual rights. He said these individual rights include the right to reproductive health and life planning.
Furthermore, he continued, the DKI PPapp Office views the phenomenon
Childfree
In Jakarta as a new phenomenon that needs to be a concern because it can affect the national demographic structure.
“The DKI PPAPP Office emphasized that the decision not to have children needs to be studied more deeply, especially related to the economic and social factors that influence it,” said Iin.
Iin encouraged every couple to get married to plan the family as well as possible and encourage all decisions to be taken consciously, based on correct information, and with social responsibility. He also stressed the importance of quality family development, because families remain the basic unit of human and community development.
He said in urban areas such as Jakarta, the burden of living expenses, access to basic services, and job demands is often a major consideration in the decision to build the family.
In relation to Jakarta’s efforts to become a global city, Iin said that it was not merely from economic growth and infrastructure, but also from the city’s efforts to foster superior, healthy, and adaptive human resources to social change.
Therefore, said Iin, education about family planning, readiness to be parents, and strengthening family institutions remain a priority in realizing sustainable development.
Demographic Bonus
He said, the DKI PPAPP Office continued to encourage the use of demographic bonuses in supporting Jakarta as a global city.
Demographic bonuses, he said, can only be utilized optimally if the younger generation is healthy, educated, productive, and has access to employment opportunities. Thus, the role of the younger generation becomes very strategic in determining the future direction of the city and nation.
Referring to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) through national socioeconomic survey data (Susenas) in 2022, there are at least 71 thousand Indonesian women aged 15-49 years (childbearing age) who have been married but have never given birth, do not want to have children.
Women who live life

Indicated to have higher education or experience economic difficulties.
BPS noted, in the short term, women
Childfree
It can be said to ease the burden of government budget because education and health subsidies for children are reduced. However, in the long run, women’s welfare

Old age will potentially be the responsibility of the state.
The prevalence of Childfree has also been found to have increased over the past four years.Susenas data noted, the prevalence of Childfree in 2019 was 7 percent.
This figure had declined in 2020 to 6.3 percent. The prevalence of Childfree then increased in 2021 to 6.5 percent and jumped to 8.2 percent in 2022.
Iin added, phenomenon
Childfree
What occurs in developed countries causes a continuous decline in birth rates, causing the composition of the population to be unbalanced, with a much greater number of elderly than the productive age population.
This condition has an impact on economic setbacks, decreased productivity, and increasing the social and fiscal burden of the country.
