Boston, Seattle and San Francisco are a number of cities hosting the 2026 World Cup in the United States that have received threats from Trump.
The 45th and 47th president of the United States said that if the cities were unsafe, Trump would urge FIFA to move them to another location.

Trump’s statement came under fire.This is because the cities that Trump threatened are areas led by the Democratic Party, a party that is not in line with Trump’s policies.
“We’re going to make sure they’re safe. [Seattle and San Francisco] are run by radical leftist crazies who don’t know what they’re doing. If I didn’t think they were safe, we’d move them out of those cities.”
“So, if there is a city that we consider even the slightest bit dangerous for the World Cup, or for the [2028] Olympics, because it is held in many cities, we will not allow it. We will move it. But I hope that will not happen,” Trump added.
What is FIFA’s response?
FIFA firmly states that determining which cities will host the 2026 World Cup is in FIFA’s hands.This was revealed by FIFA Vice President, Victor Montagliani.
“It’s a FIFA tournament, it’s FIFA’s jurisdiction, FIFA makes those decisions. With all due respect to today’s world leaders, football is bigger than them and football will survive their regimes, governments and slogans.”
“That’s the beauty of our game, that football is bigger than any individual and bigger than any country,” Montagliani was quoted as saying by Reuters.
However, FIFA is considered unstable.The reason is, through a statement from a spokesperson on Thursday (16/10), FIFA handed over decisions regarding the security and safety of a city to the local government.
“Safety and security is a top priority at all FIFA events, around the world. Safety and security is clearly the responsibility of governments, and they decide what is best for public safety,” said a FIFA spokesperson.
“We hope that each of our 16 host cities is ready to host a successful World Cup and fulfills all the necessary requirements,” said the spokesperson.
Trump’s idea was rejected by organizers
Donald Trump’s idea to move a number of host cities for the 2026 World Cup was also rejected by representatives of Playfly Sports Consulting, which is the organizer of the tournament and the company behind the bidding for the United States, Canada and Mexico to host.
“As far as I can see, there has been no disruption at all in terms of preparations. Tickets have been on sale. Accommodation service packages have been on sale for almost a year,” said John Kristick, who serves as Co-Head of Global Events at Playfly Sports Consulting.
More than 1 million tickets to the 2026 World Cup matches have been sold, with fans from 212 countries purchasing tickets.Kristick considers moving the location of the 2026 World Cup impossible, because many fans have already booked tickets and hotels in selected cities.
For the 2026 World Cup, 11 of the 16 host cities will be in the United States.With less than a year to go, it is difficult for Donald Trump to urge FIFA to move the location of the match.
