Raqqa Village Residents,

, busy hunting gold on the edge of the Euphrates river which is increasingly drying.
This action was triggered by the emergence of sparkling land mounds in the bottom of the river which dried up due to the receding of the flow of water in the last few days.
What initially began as a curiosity of a handful of people has now turned into a large-scale excavation activity carried out spontaneously, without coordination.
Emergency tents appear along the river, and residents, armed with a shovel and hoe, continue to dig day and night.
Not only an impromptu economic activity, this phenomenon also revived the conversation about one of the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad who said the euphrat river would show the “golden mountain” towards the end of time.
“Doomsday will not come until the Euphrates river shows a golden mountain that will be a struggle for humans.”(HR. Bukhari and Muslim)
This hadith is often quoted in the end-time narratives in the Sunni Islamic tradition.Ulama Asaad Al Hamdani confirmed the authenticity of the hadith, but reminded that the community would not rush to link this event with signs of doom.
“Narratives like this require a deep understanding of the scholars, especially when associated with actual events,” Al Hamdani told

.
However, scientific uncertainty did not dampen the enthusiasm of gold seekers. For some Raqqa residents, this is not just an economic opportunity, but also believed to be a rare spiritual moment.
However, is it true that the Euphrates river stores gold?
Geological Engineer Khaled Al Shammari explained that although mineral deposits are commonly found along the euphrates river which crosses the rich geological content region, the appearance of sparkling soil is not necessarily indicating the presence of gold.
“In-depth geological analysis is needed to ascertain whether the precipitate really contains gold or just ordinary minerals like pyrite that is often suspected of gold,” explained Al Shammari.
Until now, there has been no scientific confirmation regarding the existence of gold at that location.
The Syrian government and local authorities have not yet intervened or implement regulations, although excavation activities continue to increase and have the potential to pose a risk of safety and environmental damage.
