“86 people died due to flash floods and landslides, 99 other people were still missing, 508 were injured. Meanwhile, 7,382 people were displaced and 296,454 people were affected,” he said.
Meanwhile, the North Sumatra Regional Police’s Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Team has identified 290 victims who died as a result of floods and landslides in a number of districts/cities in North Sumatra.
“As of Tuesday, December 2 2025, we have identified 290 victims spread across 12 districts/cities in the North Sumatra Regional Police,” said Head of Bhayangkara TK II Medan Hospital, Police Commissioner Dr.Taufik Ismail, Wednesday (3/12).
Taufik emphasized that the team had been mobilized thoroughly in each district/city with a total of 30 personnel, consisting of 10 DVI personnel from the National Police Headquarters and 20 DVI personnel from the North Sumatra Police.
“We have carried out DVI operations spread across all districts in North Sumatra with a strength of 30 personnel. Consisting of 10 DVI personnel from the National Police Headquarters and the rest from the North Sumatra Regional Police,” he said.
According to Taufik, all victims who had been identified used secondary data such as physical characteristics, fingerprints and attached properties, because the majority of the bodies were still in relatively intact condition in the initial phase.
“To date, all 290 bodies that have been identified have been returned to their families for burial,” he said.
Taufik said that currently there are still 122 victims listed as missing, and many of them are thought to have begun to decompose.
“Perhaps in the next week it will be more difficult to identify because the bodies that are still buried are undergoing a process of decomposition. For this reason, we are preparing identification steps using primary data, namely DNA samples,” he said.
Based on the latest data collection, said Taufik, Tapteng Regency is the area with the most severe impact.
The details are Tapteng (86 people died, 104 people were missing), South Tapanuli Regency (84 people died, 4 people were missing).
Then Sibolga City (47 people died, 9 people were missing), North Tapanuli Regency (34 people died, 12 people were missing), Medan City (12 people died), Langkat Regency (14 people died).
Apart from that, Humbang Hasundutan Regency (8 people died and 1 person died), Pakpak Bharat Regency (2 people died), South Nias (1 person died), Padangsidimpuan City (1 person died), and Binjai City (1 person died).
“In treating injured victims, all patients are treated at local hospitals, including Bhayangkara Batangtoru Hospital. If they need treatment or referral later, we will send them to Medan City,” he said.
