National Food Agency (
Bapanas
) Ensure one price policy
rice
will still be implemented even though the government has just raised the highest retail price (
Het
) for medium rice from Rp12,500 to Rp13,500 per kilogram (kg).
Deputy I of Bapanas Food Availability and Stabilization I Gusti Ketut Astawa said HET adjustments are short -term steps so that rice milling can still be produced.
“Look, so this (HET increase) is a short road. Because if it is not adjusted, the friends of rice milling do not dare to produce. Because the price is too high in our GKP (Dry Gray), he will find it difficult to produce rice with a position of Rp12,500 per kg,” Ketut said in a public discussion paradox of paradoxes in the paradoxical discussion of the National Paradox Paradox.
“Therefore, later after this we will gather with related stakeholders to think as directed by the Coordinating Minister (Food Zulhas) as well as how we make a policy of one rice price later,” he added.
The one -price policy of rice, said Ketut, will continue to be carried out in accordance with the direction of the Coordinating Minister for Food Division Zulkifli Hasan in a limited coordination meeting. For now, adjustments are only made on medium rice so that the difference in price with premium rice is not too far and the market can be more balanced.
According to him, premium rice HET has not changed.Further decisions will be discussed in a joint forum with ministries, institutions, academics, to the association of business actors.
“Later we will see. It can’t be directly to make a policy without involving everyone. The point is we are waiting for later, the direction is one price of rice. That is certain,” he said.
Ketut added that the future policy direction is the unification of prices so that the market is no longer split between medium and premium rice.
“If it is far (price difference), people will run a little on the medium, then run to premium. We hope that this way will be balanced,” he said.
Previously, the government through the Decree of the Head of Bapanas Number 299 of 2025 had set a new HET of medium rice as of August 22, 2025.
In Zone 1 which includes Java, Lampung, South Sumatra, Bali, and West Nusa Tenggara, HET rose from Rp12,500 to Rp13,500 per kilogram.
In Zone 2 (North Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, Bengkulu, Riau Islands, Bangka Belitung, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and East Nusa Tenggara), prices rose from Rp13,100 to Rp14,000 per kg.While zone 3 (Maluku and Papua) rose from Rp13,500 to Rp15,500 per kg.
The premium rice HET has not changed, still Rp14,900 per kg in zone 1, Rp15,400 per kg in zone 2, and Rp15,800 per kg in zone 3.
This one rice price policy is in line with the Bapanas plan to revise rice quality and labelization rules. The government plans to remove medium and premium classifications in Bapanas regulations, simplify the classification system, as well as adjusting packaging labelization rules.
Head of Bapanas Arief Prasetyo Adi previously said that the grouping of premium rice and medium was already irrelevant, while the Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan said that in the future there would be only two types of rice in the market, general and special rice.
