Liverpool coach Arne Slot said he was satisfied with the performance of his directive team in two preseason trial matches over Athletic Bilbao at Anfield Stadium on Monday (4/8) local time.
In the first match, Liverpool won 4-1 over Bilbao.The Reds’ victory goals were born from Rio Ngumoha, Darwin Nunez, Ben Prayer, and Harvey Elliott.
In the second match, Cody Gakpo scored two goals in the second half after Mohamed Salah’s opening goal in the 14th minute to ensure a 3-2 victory.
“I think we were able to create many opportunities in these two matches and managed to score seven goals. Four goals in the first half and three goals in the second half. So it was very fun to see because we clearly could not score in every opportunity you got,” said the slot on the club’s official website.
“In the first round the second match we should be able to score a few goals more than we produce. So, that is the most happy, namely the ability to create opportunities and even managed to score seven goals in two interesting matches,” Slot added.
The slot also talks about the future of the Liverpool attack line which is confirmed without Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.Diaz moved to Bayern Munich while Jota left forever due to a car accident.
“Yes, we did lose two quality players, Diogo [Jota] and Luis [Diaz]. But we have got additional players, Hugo [Ekitice], who will definitely be a very fitting player for the team.”
“Rio [Ngumoha] shows good things in every preseason match. However, in other preseason matches we conceded too much,” Slot said evaluating the Reds defense.
The trial match that gave birth to 10 goals could be an evaluation material for the two teams before mentas in their respective competitions.
Furthermore, Liverpool will face Crystal Palace at the Community Shield next week.While Bilbao will face Arsenal at the Emirates Cup before mentas in the Spanish League.
