On Monday (4/8) that the Italian government plans to immediately start a long-awaited project construction work.
Since serving in 2023, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has allocated 13.5 billion euros for the construction of the Messina Strait Bridge.
This bridge has been an ambition since the Romans reportedly proposed the construction of a similar overpass.Development will be led by Italian companies, webuilds, and supervised by the Messina Strait company.
On Tuesday (29/7), the final design of the bridge and the accompanying contract documents had been approved by the Board of Directors.
With a maximum capacity of up to 200 trains per day and 6,000 vehicles per hour, the suspension bridge is scheduled to be completed in 2032.
“The renewable investment value, after the finalization of additional agreements with all contractors, is still confirmed by 13.5 billion euros, which is fully borne by the 2025 budget law and an increase in the stretto railroad company in Messina signed in 2023,” said the Messina Strait Company.
According to the report, an economic planning committee meeting to approve the bridge plan is expected to be held on August 7, 2025.
Webuild said that the approval of the Committee would allow the start of preliminary land acquisition, the transfer of utility, and geological survey.
