In a number of modern retailers, although there is no official prohibition from the government to attract products from shelves.
Director General of Consumer Protection and Orderly Commerce (PKTN) Ministry of Trade Moga Simatupang said the government actually decided on the distribution of rice stabilization of supply and food prices (SPHP) to modern retail from July 17 to December 31, 2025. However, the distribution was not optimal.
“So far it is indeed for modern retail, the rice is based on yesterday’s report from Aprindo, only 540 tons will enter. And we hope that in the near future the SPHP supply will soon be distributed to modern retail,” Moga said at the Ministry of Trade, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (6/8).
He also previously stressed that the government had never instructed retail to attract rice from sales, even though the case of mixed rice on the market.
“What is clear is that the government does not ask to be interesting. The government only asks that modern retailers adjust prices to rice commodities that are not in accordance with yesterday’s dose and quality as well,” Moga said.
The product withdrawal policy, according to him, may be carried out by business actors if needed, but the government considers its impact on the availability of goods in the market.
Responding to changes in consumer behavior that began to turn to the stall because of concerns about mixed rice, hopefully ensuring national supply is still in safe condition.
“So far, the government has a surplus, the rice in the Bulog Perum, GKP (Dry Ray of Harvest), if yesterday there were around 2.6 million tons in Bulog, 1.3 million tons in Perpadi. And the government would guarantee the supply of rice both from SPHP and from rice purchased from farmers’ goods,” he explained.
Previously, the vacancy of rice stocks occurred in various Indomaret and Alfamart outlets in Jakarta and Tangerang since the disclosure of the mixed rice cases.
Retail officers said the withdrawal was made because the product was not in accordance with quality standards, although there were no orders from the government.
Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) Arief Prasetyo Adi appealed to retail not to attract rice that was already in the market, but rather adjusting prices in accordance with the quality of content.
“This step is not to be shortage in the field. These rice are still good, it only does not match the contents and the packaging. So the price must be lowered according to the contents in it,” Arief said.
The appeal was conveyed through the official Bapanas letter numbered 589/TS.02.02/B/07/0725 dated July 25, 2025 to Aprindo.
In the letter, retail is asked to continue to carry out sales transactions as usual while selling stock available in warehouses and shelves. The price decline is applied to rice that does not meet premium quality provisions.
“So the rice that is on sale, which is already on the shelves, is already in the market, it is not withdrawn, because if it is pulled back, there will be a vacancy.
