Bahlil Lahadalia
said Indonesia plans to import
Lithium
from Australia.
Imports are carried out because of the four raw materials for making electric vehicle batteries, only natural resources are not owned by the motherland.
According to him, there are four main ingredients of making electric batteries namely nickel, cobalt, manganese, and lithium.Of all of them only three ingredients owned by Indonesia.
“Now we have cooperation with Australia for us to import from their country Lithium,” Bahlil said met at the Mulia Senayan Hotel, Tuesday (5/8).
Bahlil said Indonesia had tried to find Lithium in the country. But until now, the effort has not produced results. Therefore, to have this raw material, the government imports.
Until now, imports are carried out only from Africa. But in the near future the plan is to be transferred from Australia because it is considered to be much cheaper shipping costs.
“One of the countries that we will do cooperation is Australia. So far we have brought from several countries in Africa. Now it is economical, it will be far more economical from Australia because there is transportation costs,” he explained.
Although, for the volume of Lithium’s imports to be carried out, the government is still waiting for the submission of the entrepreneur to obtain permission.
“Some friends of the business actors have taken the mine there. I don’t know how volume is because I am not the entrepreneur,” he concluded.
