Financial Services Authority (
OJK
) revealed a new mode
fraud
in the financial services industry using
artificial intelligence
or Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Head of Executive Supervisor of the Behavior of Financial Services, Education, and Consumer Protection of OJK Friderica Widyasari said the mode of fraud using AI is usually carried out with a vote or voice cloning.
“AI technology allows scam or scammer actors to record and imitate someone’s voice such as friends, colleagues, or family. By using the sound that has been learned, the scammers can have a conversation as if they are people known to the victims,” he said at the RDKB press conference in June 2025 virtually, Monday (4/8).
Friderica said fraud with voting sounds was increasingly easy to do amidst the high use of social media because people often upload content that played their voices.Therefore, OJK appealed to the public to be vigilant.
“Because this technology can imitate the sound and then processed making it easier for them to do scams for the community,” he said.
Another mode, he continued, is to use a face or deepfake.With this mode, the perpetrators of crime made fake videos that imitate a person’s face very accurately.
“This video can be used to convince the victims that they are communicating with the person in question. So not only the sound, but also with the face now with the sophistication of AI is very easy they (scammer) applies as if family, children, colleagues, and our friends,” he said.
To avoid fraud, OJK appealed to the public to verify information.If contacted by someone who claims to be the closest person and ask for a money transaction, then you should do verification by contacting the closest person in question.
Then, maintain the confidentiality of personal data, especially those related to finance.
“Then be aware of videos or sounds that are visible and sound unusual,” he said.
