The rules governing the sound of electric vehicles have existed since 2020, but are implemented in stages.All of that is regulated through Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number 44 of 2020 concerning Testing the Physical Type of Motorized Vehicles with Motorcycles Using Electric Motors.
The regulation was officially determined by the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya on June 16, 2020 and was promulgated on June 22, 2020. This regulation was officially valid from the date of promulgation.
The obligation to add artificial sound as a substitute for the exhaust sound is an effort to prevent potential accidents, especially for pedestrians and other road users who rely on hearing while on the highway.
Although valid from the time of being promulgated, the sound for electric vehicles was not immediately applied.According to Article 35, electric vehicles that are still produced, assembled, or imported and have SUT must be equipped with four years of vote since June 22, 2020 which means June 22, 2024.
While the new type of electric vehicle that is still in the process of testing must be equipped with a maximum of two years since June 22, 2020. This means that the application of the sound of electric vehicles is the fastest June 22, 2022.
Yusuf also admitted that there were still many manufacturers have not adopted the technology or could have been delayed because of a number of internal processes such as redesign and approval from global principles.
“Do not let the development of motorized vehicle models also still need development development, yes, so we need to approval from the principal and it takes time,” he said.
He emphasized that the government did not want to force implementation if industry players were not fully ready.Joseph only hopes that industry regulations and readiness can run simultaneously.
