CEO of Nvidia
Jensen Huang
warned a lot of jobs that are lost if the industry lacks innovation in the midst of technological developments
artificial intelligence
(AI) which boosts productivity.
“If the world runs out of ideas, then increased productivity means losing a job,” Huang said in an interview with Fareed Zakaria from shesocial on July 11.
The statement arose when Huang was asked about the comments made by Anthropic Head Dariao Amodei, who stated that AI would cause mass employment disorders.
Amodei previously warned that AI technology can cause dramatic unemployment surges in the near future. He told Axios that AI could eliminate half of the beginner -level white collar work and increase unemployment by up to 20 percent in the next five years.
Huang, who has assets of up to Rp2,300 trillion, is sure that as long as companies bring up new ideas, there will be space for productivity and employment to develop.
Conversely, without new ambitions, he said “productivity will decrease,” which has the potential to produce less work.
“The basic thing is this, do we have more ideas left in the community? And if yes, if we are more productive, we will be able to grow,” he said.
The increase in AI investment, which triggered a massive technology explosion in recent years, has raised concerns about whether the technology will threaten work in the future.
According to a 2024 survey from the Adecco Group staffing company, around 41 percent of the executive head said AI would reduce the number of workers in thousands of companies in the next five years.
Then, a survey released in January from the World Economic Forum shows that 41 percent of the company plans to reduce the number of their workforce in 2030 due to AI automation.
“All work will be affected. Some work will be lost. A lot of work will be created and what I hope is an increase in productivity that we see in all industries will lift the community,” Huang said.
Furthermore, AI is also said to be changing the way it works.According to a 2024 survey conducted by Duke University and Federal Reserve Banks of Atlanta and Richmond, more than half of the large companies in the US said they plan to automate the tasks previously carried out by employees, such as paying suppliers or making invoices.
Huang even said that his work had changed due to the AI revolution, “But I am still doing my job.”
Some companies also use AI tools, such as chatgpt and chatbot, for creative tasks including preparing job posts, press releases, and building marketing campaigns.
“AI is the greatest balancing of technology we have ever seen,” Huang said.
“Ai lifts people who do not understand technology,” he concluded.
