Encouraging trilateral meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin if a meeting with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, on Monday (18/8), went smoothly.
Trump said this trilateral meeting was aimed at ending the Russian-Ukraine war.
“We will hold a meeting. I think if everything goes smoothly today, we will hold trilateral and I think there will be a big enough opportunity to end the war when we do it,” Trump said, sitting with Zelensky in the White House, quoted from

Trump said he would immediately call Russian President Putin after negotiations in the White House with Ukraine leaders and European allies.
“He waited for my phone after this meeting was over,” Trump said.

He said he would express the idea of a trilateral meeting between himself, Putin, and Zelensky during the conversation.
“We might have trilat or not. If we don’t have trilat, battles will continue, and if we have, we have a good chance – I think if we have trilat, there is a good chance to end it,” he said.
Zelensky thanked Trump for hosting the negotiations, which would be expanded to involve European leaders.
“Thank you for the invitation and thank you very much for your efforts, personal efforts to stop the murder and stop this war,” he said.
Zelensky said he was ready for a trilateral peak meeting between him, Trump, and Putin.
“We need to stop this war, stop Russia. And we need the support (from) our American and European partners,” he said.
“We support the idea of the United States – and, personally, President Trump – to stop this war, to create a diplomatic way to end this war,” he added.
