At least 26 Indonesian citizens (WNI) who fled from online fraud centers or
online scam
Myanmar
evacuated to Indonesia today, Wednesday (29/10).
The Directorate for Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is collaborating with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Bangkok and the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon to repatriate these Indonesian citizens.
“The Indonesian citizens arrived at Soekarno Hatta airport on Wednesday 29 October 2025 morning at around 06.00 WIB, and were immediately handed over to the relevant agencies for further handling,” said a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the official website, quoted Wednesday evening.

Of the total 26 Indonesian citizens, there is one Indonesian citizen who is suspected of being the perpetrator of an online recruitment scam.
The suspected recruiter is temporarily being accommodated at the Banten Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Center (BP3MI) shelter to undergo an examination by the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
Meanwhile, 25 others will be placed in the Bambu Apus Trauma Center (RPTC) Protection House belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs for a further in-depth assessment process.
Previously, dozens of Indonesian citizens fled from the fraud center

in Myawaddy Myanmar.
Through coordination between the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the authorities in Myanmar and Thailand, dozens of Indonesian citizens were successfully transported to Thailand.
In Thailand, they underwent an assessment process for indications of TIP victims by local authorities before being returned to Indonesia.
For Indonesian citizens who are verified as victims of TIP, the government will provide assistance in the form of rehabilitation, social reintegration, empowerment, and repatriation to their areas of origin, in accordance with the mandate of the Law on the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and PMI Abroad.
If during the investigation process it is found that there are parties involved as perpetrators or parties responsible, the National Police will follow up in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
In its message, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged every prospective Indonesian migrant worker to always follow official procedures and applicable regulations, both in Indonesia and in the destination country.This is important to do to avoid the risk of fraud, exploitation and legal problems that can harm yourself and your family in Indonesia.
